Facts about how maori were treated

  • Kids were straped or caned if they spoke Maori in school grounds or or just in genaral 
  • As people that spoke english started coming to New Zealand Maori language started dying out 
  • Before the british came to ewzealand everyone in newzealand spoke Maori
  • Loss of land in New zealand meant that the Maori could not make trditional food 
  • Missionaries started teaching maori how to speak and right english in the 1814s 
  • In the 1860s english became the most dominent language in New Zealand

  2. Hi Samara im a student from tangaroa in yr 7.
    i think what people did and said about maori language is quite sad.
    Hopefully now, lots of people notice maori and speak the language and i think this is something that shoukd have changed a while ago back when people said bad things about maori culture.
